Newsletter 101: Turning one-off sponsors into MRR

One-offs are dead. Map a month, lock a quarter.

Today, we’ll talk about sponsors.

You’ve scaled to X amount of subs. Readers are engaged. Content is strong. Revenue is not.

You send countless cold emails, finally land a sponsor after weeks (or months), make some $$… and then you’re back to zero. New week, new cycle. Repeat.

There’s a better way.

Turn one-off ads into monthly recurring revenue.

The simple ladder

Proof → Pack → Program

  • Proof: one placement that performs (fast).

  • Pack: a package of 2-4touch month that blends awareness + action.

  • Program: a monthly program that runs on repeat.

Don’t skip steps. Earn each move.

1) PROOF (one run that sets up the month)

Find your perfect sponsor, that you know your audience will be interested in.

Pitch them, how you turn your readers into their customers.

You will have to make a list of at least 100 sponsors that fit your content and audience, and send them all a personalized email and if you are local, give them a call, or even go meet them in person!

You will get some that reply back. Show them why email newsletters perform better than your generic meta ads. Show them your stats, and reader profile.

Tell them you’re always after a partner and not one-off ads. Tell them you’re after their ROI and success. Do this by pitching first a one-off ad placement.

After it runs, send a one-slide recap:

  • 👀 Opens: [xx.x%] ([#])

  • 🖱️ Clicks: [x.x%] ([#] to your URL)

  • 📍 Top ZIPs/cities: [ZIP1], [ZIP2]

2) PACK (turn proof into a package)

Offer a named plan (sounds like a campaign, not four ads):

4-Touch Month

  • 2× Main (authority/awareness)

  • 2× Secondary (action/reminders)

  • + Optional: short profile on your site

Positioning:

One story, four touches in a month. You approve every word. No long contracts.

Pricing (example—adjust to your card):
If Main $1,000 / Secondary $500 / Article $200Month pack $2,299–$2,699.
Anchor with the à-la-carte total; present the pack as the mapped plan.

Email pitch (paste):

Let’s run a 4-touch month: 2× Main + 2× Mid (plus a short profile).
$2,699 all-in. We’ll slot [Day/Day]; you approve copy each time. Lock it?

3) PROGRAM (90-day MRR)

Structure:

  • Month pack ×3 (fresh creative monthly)

  • Quarterly recap (one tidy page)

  • Optional add-on: one lead-gen/CPL test or seasonal giveaway

Pricing: 3× month pack minus 10–15% for commitment.
Billing: monthly. If a send slips, do a makegood (not refunds).

Program email (paste):
Subject: Keep results compounding (90-day plan)

Month results: [open% / clicks / top ZIPs].
Recommend a 90-day program: same 2× Main + 2× Mid each month, new creative monthly, and a quarterly recap.
$[price]/mo (10% off the month pack). Lock it?

Plan stays true unless they unsubscribe from you. Do this for three sponsors and you got your schedule fully booked!

Tip: Try to find a high ticket sponsor to add into your sponsors. These sponsors would only be looking for 1-2 conversions. Much easier to convince than a one-man team or startup with a low ticket price.
